Momma M.I.A. -- Superbowl Halftime Show Does It Again

What would a super bowl be without controversy over the halftime show? Ever since the infamous Janet Jackson Nipple Slip incident the world has focused intently on making sure the halftime show was kid friendly. So for the last several years the NFL has enacted some incredible safeguards-like unofficially banning females from performing.

I guess that plan was going well because I haven't seen a breast at halftime in years. You can Imagine how shocked I was when I found out Madonna would Headline this year's Superbowl halftime show. I couldn't help but think Madonna was the PERFECT choice.  Madonna is a fantastic performer and I figured there was at least even odds on seeing a bare breast or maybe more.  God Bless the NFL, NBC, and the City of Indianapolis.

Anyway, as it turns out, while I was staring at Madonna hoping she would whip something out; M.I.A., busted out the birdie. I missed it!!! I would not have even known if it wasn't for the fact that it made front page of MSNBC.com today. I'm also disappointed that anyone cares! After all, the players curse like sailors coming out of the tunnel and nobody seems to bat an eye.

As I see it; M.I.A. was on stage performing and she was in her zone.  Through the expression of her performance she gestured the word she was prohibited from saying.  It was a crime of passion.

By the way, as I write this the FCC is currently in court arguing to keep the airwaves "Decent." And it looks like they’re having a difficult time doing it.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/10/supreme-court-fcc-indecency_n_1197578.html So, for all the hub-ub, all sorts of indecent programming may be coming your way courtesy of the Supreme Court.

Please tell me what you think in the comments section below.

First of all, I don't believe for a minute the word of the NFL that this was accidental. I mean seriously, they put trollops and tramps up as headliners and act surprised that lewd and obnoxious performers gave lewd and obnoxious performances?

Secondly, I don't think any parent was caught flatfooted because anybody old enough to have kids would take a look at who the headliners are and either shoo the kid out of the room or change the channel to something more wholesome, like perhaps C-Span where all behavior is civilized and nobody sees immoral folks (kidding).

Finally, NFL events aren't about hugs and bunnies in the first place. The game is the closest thing you can get to a bloodsport without actually throwing Christians and Lion in the arena anyway so the pretense that this might be 'kid-friendly' is laughable. It never was and it wasn't ever meant to be. It's a vicious bloodsport game played by bloodthirsty men for a bloodthirsty audience.
